A little bit of math, a little bit of art

A Little Bit of Math and a Little Bit of Art.
April, August, September 2011.
Concepción, Temuco and Santiago, Chile.
Outreach Activity (Organized by IMSA).

We mounted a travelling art-gallery comprised of paintings made by the IMSA project director, Eric Goles, that are inspired on discrete mathematics. The art-gallery travelled to three different Universities. In April 2011 it was shown in Universidad de Concepción (Concepción, Chile), in August 2011, it was shown in Universidad de La Frontera (Temuco, Chile) and in September 2011 it was shown in Universidad Adolfo Ibañez. Each of these tours was accompanied by a closing plenary talk by Eric Goles.

Summer School on Discrete Mathematics

Summer School on Discrete Mathematics (2011).
Jan 3-7, 2011.
Valparaíso Complex Systems Institute (ISCV).
Summer School (Co-Organized by IMSA)

Every summer, since 2006, a group of Mathematicians and Operations Researchers (mostly from Universidad de Chile) has been organizing a summer school on discrete mathematics in the Valparaiso Complex Systems Institute. In the year 2011 it was agreed that the summer school would be organized by IMSA, with Eduardo Moreno acting as chair. In this summer school there were three invited lecturers: Jean Bernard Lasserre (LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse), Luis Rademacher (Ohio State University) and Michel Habib (LIAFA, Paris 7). The school was attended by 40 students from all over latin-america.

IMSA Workshop II

On September 3-4, 2010, the IMSA group celebrated its second IMSA Workshop. This event took place in the Valparaíso Complex Systems Institute, and was chaired by Bernardo Pagnoncelli. In this event the IMSA team counted with three visitors (Jair Koiller and Moacyr Alvim, from Gertulio Vargas University in Brasil, and Sergio Rica, from Universidad Adolfo Ibañez). Between the two days of the event there were a total of 12 talks. Two PhD students and one undergraduate student attended the event. The main goal of the Workshops was to stimulate collaboration between the members of the ANILLO.
